Sights/Optics: The front sight is a non F-marked A2 sight post. The rear sight is a dual aperture integral to the fixed A2 carry handle upper receiver.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The forend is a ribbed rifle length clamshell handguard with internal heat shield. The stock is a collapsible carbine stock with a sling ring on the bottom, mounted on a commercial buffer tube. The pistol grip is a standard A2 pistol grip. The furniture shows some light dings and scuffs scattered throughout. The LOP ranges between 10" and 13.75" depending on the stock position. There are no chips or cracks. Overall the stock set is in Very Good to Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. The is light carbon buildup in the A2 birdcage. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The finish shows scattered surface scuffs and scratches. There is a very faint "8" marked on the right side of the lower receiver just below the "RESTRICTED" markings. The rest of the markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This rifle presents in Fine overall condition, retaining approximately 98% of its original finish. The exterior surfaces are clean and even with only light handling evidence, and the rifle carries the classic A2 Government Carbine profile adapted to the Dissipator style configuration with rifle length sighting geometry over a 16" barrel. The bore rates 9.5 out of 10 with bright surfaces and sharp rifling, and the action functions correctly with smooth cycling and proper lockup.

Mechanically and cosmetically, this is a strong example of Colt's early 2000s law enforcement marked carbines. The lower receiver bears a faint "8" marking, a detail commonly associated with law enforcement inventory practices and consistent with agency issued rifles.

The upper receiver assembly is particularly interesting as the barrel and bolt are Colt-marked, but the upper receiver itself is not, which introduces uncertainty regarding originality status. While the configuration matches known California Highway Patrol Dissipator style carbines, and the lower receiver marking suggests law enforcement use, we cannot conclusively confirm this rifle as a genuine CHP issued example. It should therefore be evaluated as a Colt Law Enforcement Government Carbine configured in the CHP Dissipator style.

Historically, Dissipator style carbines saw limited law enforcement adoption for their longer sight radius and balanced handling, and CHP associated configurations have become particularly desirable among Colt collectors. Even with the possible upper receiver discrepancy, this rifle remains an attractive and well preserved Colt LE carbine from the early 2000s, offering strong condition, correct function, and an appealing law enforcement configuration.
