Sights / Optics: The front sight is a ramped blade with a serrated rear face fixed to the front of the slide. The rear sight is a square notch dovetailed to the rear of the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered Coltwood plastic panels with rampant colt in their centers. The grips show minor shrinkage with a little stretching at the screw holes, common for this material. The grips otherwise have only light handling marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Fine condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. The finish is generally strong throughout. There is minor operational wear and a thin, light "idiot mark" under the slide stop on the left of the frame. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Fine-plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a single 7-round magazine, two-piece faux-wood cardboard Colt box, and two manuals. The box does not have a label or a serial marking.

Our Assessment: Colt's 1911 served the United States military through two World Wars and several other conflicts, is still in use by some units today, and has become popular with law enforcement, competitors, and recreational shooters across the nation. The design has seen some updates including a firing-pin block safety, higher profile sights, and more ergonomic grips, but the basic design and fantastic trigger remain the same after more than a century.

This is a Government Model made during a period when some of their finest work was produced. The factory was full of WWII vets in the late 1960’s and early 1970s and the guns showed the dedication and work ethic of this generation. This is a 1969 example which was made just before the Series 70 was introduced. It appears to have had a gentle life, showing little sign of use. Its Coltwood grips show very minor shrinkage, really in quite nice condition for the material which tends to crack or warp with age.
