Trijicon’s Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight, also called the ACOG, is a highly advanced scope, most often used with the M-16 series of rifles. The ACOG’s scope body is forged, not cast, from 7075-T6 aircraft aluminum alloy, and then hard anodized according to military specifications. This is the same process Eugene Stoner used in designing the M-16 itself. The first ACOG, designated the TA01, was released in 1987, and just 8 years later, in 1995, the United States Special Operations Command selected the 4x32 TA01 ACOG as the official scope for the M-4 Carbine, and purchased 12,000 units from Trijicon. This Vintage 1996 Trijicon ACOG 4x32 TA01M4A1 M4A1 Carbine Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight is in Near Mint Condition, with the tritium remaining dead on the reticle and front sight from nearly 30 years of age, the case remaining difficult to close due to the size of the sight, with the back hinge often popping out, though it can be popped right back in, and with some light scattered storage scratching evident. Most interestingly, it boasts crisp, clear optics with a simple crosshair reticle, carries “Trijicon / ACOG”, “ACOG4X32JN8:12”, and “MADE IN USA” molded into one side of the body, and exhibits “NSN1240-01-412-6608” molded into the other side of the body. It features all of the original mounting and adjustment hardware, shows the serial number “096737” marked twice into the top of the ocular end, and contains the original “ACOG / Trijicon / JULY 1996” owner’s manual, an extra replacement knob, and a Trijicon Lenspen still inside the original Trijicon hard black plastic case. The case boasts a gray foam lining, fully functional black plastic front closure latches, and a barcode tag reading “TRIJICON ACOG M4A1 W/ FLAT TOP ADAPT 055 / TRTA01NSN” still attached at one side of the exterior, and the set is a beautiful example of a very rare, original Vintage 1996 Trijicon ACOG 4x32 TA01M4A1 M4A1 Carbine Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight.
