Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass mortise cone fixed to the barrel near the muzzle. The rear sight is a notch in the hammer which is presented when the hammer is cocked.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is one-piece smooth walnut with a glossy finish. There are scattered light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grip rates in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Blue barrel and cylinder, case color frame, hammer, with brass round trigger guard and backstrap.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish is strong and complete throughout. The case coloring remains quite strong and attractive with some light handling wear. There is light tarnishing on the brass. The screw heads remain sharp and serviceable. The markings are clear. The proofs are faint. Overall, this revolver rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this revolver. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a fitted wooden presentation case with burgundy velvet interior. Also included are a brass powder flask, bullet mold, percussion cap tin and an assortment of lead round balls. The accessories show varying degrees of age-related patina, oxidation and handling wear. The case has scattered scratches and handling marks on the exterior. The interior lining shows light age and storage wear.

Our Assessment: Uberti's 1849 Wells Fargo is a reproduction of the compact Colt Model 1849 Pocket pattern. The Wells Fargo configuration is distinguished from Uberti's standard 1849 Pocket by its omission of an attached loading lever, giving the revolver the clean, compact profile associated with the leverless variation. Uberti's specifications for the model call for a .31 caliber five-shot engraved cylinder, 4" octagonal barrel, case-hardened frame, walnut grip, and brass trigger guard and backstrap, matching the configuration of this example.

This 1996-production example presents well, retaining the majority of its blue finish, visible case coloring, an attractive walnut grip and a strong cylinder scene. The fitted wood presentation case and assortment of traditional black-powder accessories make this a particularly attractive display package. Overall, this is an appealing cased Uberti Wells Fargo for the black-powder shooter, Old West enthusiast or percussion-revolver collector.
