Sights/Optics: The front sight is a serrated blade pinned to the vent-rib. The rear sight is a rectangular notch sight pinned to the top strap, adjustable for elevation and windage.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two piece checkered wood with Colt medallions. There are a few pressure dings around the base of the grip. Overall, the grips rate in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is lightly worn with stubborn fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 99% of its blued finish. There are very light handling and operational marks present. The only notable mark is a very small scuff on the left side near the muzzle. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this pistol rates in about Fine Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This revolver presents in outstanding overall condition, retaining approximately 99% of its original blue finish. The bluing is deep and lustrous with little handling evidence, showcasing the high polish and finish quality that defined the Python line. The 4" configuration offers a balanced profile that is widely regarded as one of the most desirable barrel lengths for the model.

Mechanically, the revolver is excellent. The bore rates 9 out of 10, showing strong rifling and good brightness. The action functions correctly with smooth double action pull, crisp single action break, proper timing, and solid lockup. Cylinder rotation and indexing are correct, reflecting the hand fitted craftsmanship for which Colt Pythons are renowned.

Historically, a 1979 Python represents late classic production during a period when Colt's revolver craftsmanship was still at its peak. Pythons from this era are especially sought after due to their combination of traditional Colt hand fitting, premium finish, and iconic design. In this level of condition, with strong original finish and correct mechanical operation, this example stands as a highly desirable and collectible Colt revolver.
