Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked "LEFT" twice with two arrows and "WRIGHT". The elevation knob is marked from "2-12" in increments of 2 and "WCE".
Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a traditional grip, metal nose caps, a stacking loop, two sling loops and a metal butt plate with hinged door for storage in the butt. The LOP measures 13". The wood has been sanded and refinished. The wood shows surface level lines and minor compressions scattered throughout. There are no notable chips and no cracks. The butt plate has been refinished, showing rub wear around the edges and dulled checkering. The door spring is strong. Overall the stock set is in Very Good+ condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion or pitting in the bore. Our gauges show a muzzle of 1 and a throat of 1+. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The bolt and receiver show very minor wear on the friction surfaces. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. The barrel and gas cylinder show some minor scattered marks. The receiver shows some pitting under the refinish. Overall this gun is in Very Good+ condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Winchester M1 Garand was originally manufactured by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in February 1944, making it one of the relatively scarce Winchester-produced Garands built during World War II. After the war, the U.S. Navy sought to continue using the Garand while standardizing on the 7.62×51 NATO cartridge. The first conversions, designated Mk 2 Mod 0, retained the original .30-06 barrel fitted with a chamber insert to accommodate the shorter 7.62 NATO cartridge. While functional, prolonged firing could occasionally loosen the insert, prompting the Navy to adopt the improved Mk 2 Mod 1 configuration. Rather than using an insert, the Mod 1 utilized a purpose-built 7.62 NATO barrel, creating a more durable and reliable conversion that became the preferred Navy standard.
This rifle has been built in the style of the later Mk 2 Mod 1, featuring an 18.25-inch Arlington Ordnance 7.62 NATO barrel chambered specifically for the modern cartridge. The shorter barrel gives the rifle handier handling characteristics while retaining the familiar balance, sights, and rugged operating system that made the Garand famous. Combining a desirable February 1944 Winchester receiver with the distinctive Navy-inspired 7.62 NATO configuration, this rifle represents an interesting blend of World War II history and Cold War evolution.
