The Colt M-1877 was designed by one of the inventors of the M-1873 Single Action Army “Peacemaker”, William Mason. It was Colt’s first double action revolver, and also the first successful US-made DA cartridge revolver. Old West outlaw John Wesley Hardin frequently used both the .38 LC “Lightning” and .41 LC “Thunderer” versions of the Colt M-1877, and Billy the Kid had a Lightning on him when he fatefully met his end at the hands of Pat Garrett, the Kid’s last words being “¿Quien es?”. This Antique Early 1900s Hamley & Co. Pendleton, Ore. Colt 5" M-1877 DA Revolver Holster is in Very Good Condition, with 4 circular spots of dark indenting at the upper front body, 3 circular spots of dark indenting at the lower front body, a small scuff in the bottom front end tip, some drying and surface cracking along the upper left side of the body, and with some scattered scratching, darkening, and age wear evident. Most interestingly, it’s crafted in the classic “Mexican double loop” design, with a folded over and riveted skirt that also acts as the belt slide, constructed of tough, rigid, yet fairly supple brown saddle leather, and is stamped on the upper front Mexican loop with its maker, the legendary “HAMLEY & CO. / PENDLETON, ORE.”. Hamley & Company of Pendleton, Oregon has been famous for producing high quality holsters, chaps, and other working cowboy gear since 1883. Hamley-made holsters from the early 1900s remain quite scarce today. It measures 3.5“ wide across the top opening, and 8.75“ long down the straight side, making it ideal for a Colt Model 1877 Double Action revolver with a 5” barrel, features a purpose made open toe, and is a fine example of a very rare, original Antique Early 1900s Hamley & Co.
