A premier centerpiece for any hunting lodge or firearms collection, the rare chromolithograph beautifully depicts two large foxhounds and two classic bloodhounds in a rustic barn-like setting, complete with the artist's facsimile signature embedded in the lower-left corner. Housed in a period-correct, grained brown hardwood custom frame measuring 40 5/8” x 30 5/8”, the 34 1/2” x 25” print retains fairly bold, distinct colors despite some expected historical darkening. Presenting in honest, fair condition, this piece carries a fascinating retail history: it was trimmed down during the early 20th century possibly by a shopkeeper to fit local storefront display limits, which removed the outer text margins, including the top "WINCHESTER" banner, bottom "FOR SALE HERE" text, and the 1907 copyright date. The central image shows distinct signs of its long journey, including a prominent 7 1/2” jagged scratch down the middle, minor corner scuffs, and three small tears along the lower edge. An old securing nail on the upper right has ground away a small section of the paper over the decades, and the frame shows a missing portion on the bottom right edge alongside a weathered two-piece cardboard backing with heavy patina on the original hanging wire. Ultimately, this remains a highly scarce, authentic survivor and a remarkably honest example of classic American sporting advertising.
