Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded post dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation u-notch dovetailed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, smooth forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate shows moderate wear and patina. The furniture shows pressure dings, scratches, and old blemishes that have since been finished over. There are several cracks in the wood and a chip at the top of the butt. The LOP measures 13.25" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The furniture rates in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is faint erosion towards the muzzle end of the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 7/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 50% of its original metal finish. The finish shows edge wear, patina, scuffs, and scratches. The screw heads range from unmarred to lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. The markings are fairly clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This 2nd year production Winchester Model 63 was manufactured in 1934 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester shortly after the Model 63 was introduced in 1933, early examples like this represent the formative years of one of Winchester’s most successful semi-automatic rimfire designs. The Model 63 was developed as the successor to the Model 1903 and quickly gained popularity for its smooth operation and reliable performance.

Chambered in .22 Long Rifle with a 20 inch barrel, this tube-fed semi-automatic rifle reflects the early configuration offered during the first years of production. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 7 out of 10, showing moderate wear consistent with age and use. The action functions correctly.

This rifle retains approximately 50 percent of its original metal finish, with honest wear and thinning consistent with nearly a century of age. The refinished furniture rates in Good condition with visible handling marks. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition and stands as an early 1934 Winchester Model 63 from only the second year of production.
