Sights/Optics: The front sight is a metal bead fixed at the muzzle. The top of the receiver is serrated to reduce glare.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, checkered semi-pistol grip, 18-rib forend, and a checkered synthetic buttplate. The buttplate has light handling wear. The furniture shows pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. There is a repair at the heel of the stock. There is also a notable nick on the the right side of the forend. The LOP measures 13.75" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There is a small crack running from the upper tang of the receiver. The furniture rates in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with light streaking. There is no erosion in the choke. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 70% of its mostly original metal finish. The finish shows edge wear, scratches, light patina, and scattered surface oxidation. The screw heads show light tooling and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this shotgun rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This first year Winchester Model 42 was manufactured in 1933 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic shotgun. Produced by Winchester, the Model 42 is widely regarded as the finest pump-action .410 shotgun ever built. Introduced in 1933, it was the first pump shotgun designed specifically around the .410 Bore rather than being scaled down from a larger gauge. First year production examples are especially desirable to collectors as they represent the beginning of one of Winchester's most iconic shotgun lines.
Chambered for .410 Bore 3 inch shells with a 28 inch barrel and Full choke, this shotgun is configured for classic small game and upland hunting. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10, indicating excellent internal condition with strong bore quality. The metal finish is original except for a small spot of cold blue touch-up near the muzzle. The action functions correctly.
The furniture rates in Good condition with honest handling wear consistent with age and field use. This shotgun retains approximately 70% of its mostly original metal finish, presenting an attractive appearance while preserving much of its factory character. Overall, this shotgun rates in Very Good condition and stands as a highly desirable first year 1933 Winchester Model 42 with strong originality and excellent bore condition.
