Sights / Optics: The front sight is a short blade integral to the front of the slide. The rear sight is a "U"-notch dovetailed into the slide. The top of the slide has a thin rib that has fine wavy serrations to reduce glare.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered black plastic with Walther banner logos at their tops. The grips show even light handling wear. There is scattered light scuffing with some nicks and scratches. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Refinished. There is no visible serial marking on the slide. The import mark is through the finish, indicating original to import.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright with sharp rifling. There is scattered light erosion and stubborn fouling in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 7/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 75% of its current metal finish. The finish is thinning at most edges. The balance is mostly in scattered surface oxidation and spots of minor erosion. There are some scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. The action shows operational wear. The screw head is lightly tool marked with a strong slot. The markings range from clear to worn and incomplete. Overall, this pistol is in about Very Good condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Walther PP, or Polizeipistole, was introduced in 1929 and found great success both commercially and with law enforcement agencies. With the outbreak of WWII, the German military found that its huge demand for sidearms could not be filled only with P38 and Luger pistols, orders for a variety of other models would be placed and the Walther PP was among them. This example is a wartime commercial PP, made in 1940, chambered for .380 ACP. Given the year it was made and what Germany saw in the following years, it is in decent shape, retaining much of its blue refinish, a decent bore, and good mechanics. This would make a neat addition to a Walther or WWII era pistol collection and may still prove to be a fun shooter. Please see our photos and good luck!
