Stock- The left side of the stock "S.A. GAW" and an ordnance wheel. The bottom of the pommel has a small ordnance wheel. The grip is marked with a "P". This stock was made under George A. Woody between August 1943 and August 1944.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable lock-bar aperture sight set between two protective wings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The wood stock has a traditional semi-pistol grip, metal nose caps, two sling loops, stacking ring, and a checkered metal butt plate with storage compartment. The LOP measures 13” inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The wood has been sanded and re-finished. The wood shows compressions, nicks, scratches, and minor chips scattered throughout. There is a notable impact mark that has started two cracks in the rear upper handguard on the left hand side about two inches to the front of the rear band. The butt plate has lost most of its finish, has surface rust in the checkering and shows rub wear around the edges. The door spring is strong and functions correctly. Overall the stock set is in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is very bright and the rifling is well defined-sharp. There is no visible pitting, erosion, or rust in the bore. Our gauges show a muzzle of 1.5 and a throat erosion of 1.5. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. The friction surfaces of the bolt and receiver show minor rub wear. The trigger group has turned green/brown from age and oil. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in Very Good+ condition and would have rated higher if not for the damaged handguard.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a green canvas sling, yellow chamber flag, rear sight cover and CMP paperwork.
Our Assessment: This M1 Garand produced by Springfield Armory in March 1945 represents late World War II production at its peak. This example retains its original March 1945 dated barrel, rated an excellent 9.5/10, along with a lock bar rear sight and a GAW-marked stock, correct for the period. The rifle retains its original finish and overall configuration consistent with its wartime manufacture, reflecting the quality control and refinement Springfield had achieved by the final months of the war.
Sold by the Civilian Marksmanship Program in 2013 as a Correct Grade rifle, this designation means the rifle contains all correct parts for its period of manufacture, components that match the proper drawing numbers and specifications for March 1945 production. Adopted in 1936, the M1 Garand became America’s standard service rifle of WWII and was famously praised by George S. Patton as “the greatest battle implement ever devised.” This example stands as an outstanding and highly original late-war Garand, combining historical significance with Very Good+ condition.
