Sights / Optics: The front sight is a metal bead fixed to the barrel. The bead is not original to the barrel. The top of the receiver is serrated for glare reduction.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with a flat-bottom pistol grip, straight comb, serrated brown plastic Remington buttplate, and plain forend. The left of the buttstock is stamped with an Ordnance wheel and "FJA". The bottom tang inlet is stamped "497817". Instructions for adjusting the friction rings are present on the barrel inlet of the forend. The stocks have only a few scattered light marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has minor wear with well defined serrations. Overall, the stocks are in Fine condition as, at least partially, not original to the gun.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Original to the parts. Both receiver tangs match the receiver serial number. The barrel lug is marked "485926", not matching the receiver.
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright. There is erosion in the bore, but there is a little stubborn fouling. There are light tool marks where the new bead was dressed. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8+/10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at some edges. There are some scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches, most notable on the top-right of the barrel over the magazine cap and on the right receiver flat. The action shows minor operational wear. The screwheads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in Very Good-Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Remington Model 11 was the first auto-loading shotgun made in the USA, originally as the "Remington Autoloading Shotgun (1905-1910)" before it was changed to the Model 11 in 1911. The Remington Model 11 shotgun shares the same basic action as the Remington Sportsman, The Browning A5 and the Savage 720. The Model 11 was used in field configurations for recreational shooting and for aerial gunnery training, while riot configurations would typically be used by guards at bases or industrial locations vital to the war effort.
This example is from the end of the first serial range associated with military production, after the roll-marked game scenes were omitted and polishing standards reduced to increase speed of production. Due to these changes, Remington began stamping these guns "MILITARY FINISH" to distinguish from properly commercial polished guns. The gun is in Very Good-Fine condition with a lot of finish left, solid mechanics and a good bore. The barrel serial marking doesn't match the receiver, but is very close. The stock similarly has a non-matching serial marking. Military shotguns themselves are scarce when compared with rifles and handguns, so this is a neat opportunity for a shotgun from the U.S. war effort during WWII. Please see our photos and good luck!
