Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice with “DRC”. The elevation knob is marked from 2-12 in increments of 2 with “HRA”.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The wood stock has a traditional Semi-pistol grip, metal nose caps, two sling loops, stacking ring, and a checkered metal buttplate with storage compartment. The LOP measures 13” inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock and handguards have been lightly sanded and refinished. As a result they show very few marks or wear. They still show some very minor compressions and lines scattered throughout but they are very minor. The forward handguard has a barely notable mark on the top. There are no visible chips or cracks. The metal buttplate has been refinished, and shows former scratches around the edges. The buttplate has semi sharp checkering and a strong door spring. Overall the stock and handguards are in Excellent condition as refinished for C&R.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Refinished and Original

Bore Condition: The bore is very bright with sharp rifling and no erosion. According to our gauges the muzzle reads at a 1 and the throat at a 0. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10!

Overall Condition: This rifle retains 98% of its metal finish. The finish appears to be covered over in a clear coat. There is minor wear to the friction surfaces of the bolt and minor wear to the gas cylinder that has resulted in some thinning finish. The finish on the rifle has turned green with age. The gas plug shows some minor finish loss around the edges. There are two brown/black spots of surface rust developing on the top of the receiver that are covered over with the clear coat. The markings are very clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in Excellent condition as refinished for C&R.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a Director of Civilian Marksmanship Certificate of authenticity, the original sales paperwork showing the Rifle as “Select”, the manual, and an M1 cleaning kit, with oiler, grease, cleaning rod, and M1 tool.

Our Assessment: This DCM(CMP) "Select" grade Springfield M1 Garand is a sought-after variant of the iconic rifle, known for its exceptional condition and adherence to strict quality standards. This particular rifle, manufactured in August 1943, represents a piece of World War II history, produced during a critical period of the conflict. The M1 Garand, designed by John Garand and adopted by the U.S. military in 1936, was revolutionary for its semi-automatic operation and 8-round en-bloc clip, providing soldiers with a significant advantage in rate of fire over the bolt-action rifles of enemy forces.

This rifle underwent a rebuild at the Letterkenny Army Depot in December 1964, a common practice for M1 Garands to ensure they remained serviceable during the Cold War era. As part of the rebuild, it received a Springfield barrel dated August 1964, which complements the rifle’s historical timeline while enhancing its performance. Refinished and later clear-coated, the rifle boasts a stunning appearance, protecting its metal components while preserving its heritage. Its bore is in excellent condition, with a muzzle reading of 1 and a throat reading of 0, indicating minimal wear and near-pristine rifling, rare qualities in a rifle of this era.
