Sights/Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a v-notch dovetailed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is one piece wood with a straight comb, straight-wrist grip, short forend, and a checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The buttplate has light handling wear. The furniture shows only faint old blemishes that have since been sanded and refinished. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is worn. There is pitting and erosion throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 4/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about none of its original metal finish as most has worn away or turned to patina. There are dings, scratches, and small spots of oxidation throughout. The screw heads are unmarred and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Fair to Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 99 Thumb Trigger Model was manufactured between 1911 and 1923 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester, these unique bolt-action rimfire rifles featured Winchester's distinctive thumb-operated cocking and firing mechanism. The design was intended to provide a simple and economical training and sporting rifle during the early 20th century.

Chambered for .22 Short, Long, and Extra Long with an 18 inch barrel, this rifle reflects the versatile rimfire configurations popular during the period. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 4 out of 10, showing significant wear consistent with age and extended use. The action functions correctly.

The refinished furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition with attractive appearance and solid structure. This rifle retains essentially none of its original metal finish, as most has worn away or transitioned to patina over time. Overall, this rifle rates in Fair to Good condition and stands as an interesting example of Winchester's less commonly encountered thumb trigger rimfire design.
