Sights/Optics: The front sight is a Winchester 97A Type 1B sight atop a ramp with a hood. The rear sight is a  Winchester 96B Type 1B peep sight adjustable for elevation and windage.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is wood, the buttstock has a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, and replacement checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The buttplate shows light wear with a few surface scratches. The furniture shows light wear with some scattered pressure dings, surface scuffs, and nicks. Most notable are two tiny cracks on the left side of the buttstock running from the buttplate. The LOP measures 13.5" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips. This furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There are two spots of erosion in the bore close to the muzzle. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 7/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The finish is very strong only showing a few scratches and a little fading. The trigger guard shows edge wear and patina. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain strong slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a high condition example of Winchester's classic single shot rimfire rifle. Approximately 97 percent of the original blue finish remains, with clean, even metal surfaces that show only light handling wear. The long 27 inch barrel gives the rifle a graceful sporting profile and a generous sight radius, and the stock retains the tidy contours and period finish characteristic of Winchester's pre-war rimfire production.

Mechanically, the rifle remains functional and well preserved. The bore rates 7 out of 10, showing wear consistent with age but still offering practical accuracy. The action functions correctly with the simple, positive lockup that made the Model 67 and Model 68 family dependable utility rifles for farms, schools, and youth marksmanship programs. The Model 68 is distinguished by its improved sights and slightly upgraded trim relative to the Model 67, and this example reflects that refined, yet utilitarian design.

As a pre war rifle in very good condition, this Model 68 stands as a handsome and representative example of Winchester's affordable, well made single shot rimfire offerings from the 1930s.
