Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded post dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation u-notch dovetailed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, smooth forend, and a checkered metal buttplate. The buttplate shows faint oxidation in some of the checkering. The stock shows very faint wear with a few minor pressure dings and surface scratches. The LOP measures 13.25" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There is a chip at the top rear of the butt where it meets the buttplate. There are no cracks. This furniture rates in about Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. The finish is strong showing infrequent surface scratches scattered throughout. Most notably, the left side of the receiver was cleaned heavily and has taken some of the finish. The screw heads have faint to light tooling marks and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good to Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This rifle presents in very strong overall condition, retaining approximately 95% of its original bluing. The metal surfaces show deep, even color with light handling evidence, and the rifle retains matching numbered parts, an important point of originality. The stock has been refinished, the work is clean and well executed with correct contours and an attractive appearance.

Mechanically, the rifle is excellent. The bore rates a 10 out of 10, bright with sharp rifling and no visible wear. The action functions correctly and cycles smoothly, reflecting the refined reliability of the Model 63 design. The 23" barrel provides a steady sight radius and balanced handling well suited to small game hunting and recreational shooting.

As a 1957 production Model 63 with high remaining original finish, matching numbers, a perfect bore, and correct mechanical operation, this rifle stands as a desirable late production example. While the refinished stock places it outside strict original condition, the combination of excellent metal finish and outstanding bore makes it an attractive and capable Winchester rimfire with strong shooter appeal.
