Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade pinned into a base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight has been removed to accept the current optic configuration. A Lyman Alaskan 2.5 power scope is mounted to the rifle via the rear dovetail slot and a Stith mount screwed into the left side of the receiver. One of the receiver screws is missing. The glass is clear with some stubborn dirt around the edges. The scope rates in Good condition.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is one piece wood with a fluted straight comb, checkered semi-pistol grip, checkered schnabel forend, and a serrated metal buttplate. The buttplate has lost most of its finish, now showing patina and oxidation. The furniture shows pressure dings and scratches. Much of the current finish has worn off over the years. The LOP measures 14" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The notch for the bolt handle has been cut wider. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with stubborn fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 80% of its original metal finish. The floorplate/trigger guard and buttplate have lost most of their finish and show patina. The receiver and barrel finish is strong with light scratches and small oxidation spots. The screw heads show faint tooling and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 54 was manufactured in 1929 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester, the Model 54 was Winchester's first successful modern bolt-action sporting rifle and the direct predecessor to the famed Model 70. Chambering in .30 WCF (.30-30 Winchester) is far less commonly encountered than many of the Model 54's other offerings, adding additional collector interest.
Chambered in .30-30 Winchester with a 24 inch barrel, this rifle combines a classic American sporting cartridge with Winchester's early bolt-action platform. A Lyman Alaskan scope is mounted, providing a highly desirable period optic. The Lyman Alaskan was one of the premier American hunting scopes of its era and remains sought after by collectors and hunters alike. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10, indicating excellent internal condition. The action functions correctly.
