Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “-WINCHESTER- / -TRADE MARK-“, “MODEL 42 – 410 – 3 IN. CHAM.- / -MADE IN U.S.A. – WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL-” and “FULL”. The top of the barrel is marked with the “WP” proof mark at the top-rear and this same mark is on the top-front of the receiver. The bottom of the receiver extension and receiver are both marked “124907”. The receiver extension and the magazine tube have indexing arrows.

Sights / Optics: There is a silver-colored bead at the muzzle. The top of the receiver is serrated for glare reduction.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece walnut with a post-war style grooved flat-bottom slide handle, semi-pistol grip, straight comb and checkered black hard rubber Winchester buttplate. There are minor storage marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has defined checkering. Overall, the stocks are in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. There are a few light nicks and scratches. The action shows no notable operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly and smoothly. This shotgun will slam-fire as designed. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a vintage post-war Winchester Model 42 standard grade .410 bore pump-action shotgun from 1953. The Model 42 was the first pump shotgun specifically designed for the .410 chambering and resembles its larger cousin the Model 12. The gun is in Excellent condition, showing wear consistent with responsible storage over the last 70+ years.
