Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set in and pinned to a block integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a carbine style ladder sight which presents a fixed v-notch when down and a sliding v-notch leaf when up, dovetailed to the barrel. The tang is drilled, tapped, and filled for a tang sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are 2-piece smooth wood with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb and steel carbine-style buttplate.The left side of the receiver has a saddle ring. The stocks display modest handling wear. There is an empty sling stud hole in the belly of the buttstock. There are minor losses around the wrist at the receiver. The LOP measures 12 7/8" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has gone to a dark patina with surface erosion and pitting. Overall, the stocks rate in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with defined rifling. There is some minor scattered erosion intermittently throughout the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 6/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 5% of its metal finish. Most of the finish has taken to a dark and complete patina with some remaining finish preserved primarily in the highly protected areas. There is intermittent oxidation and erosion. The action shows operational wear. There are dings, scratches, and nicks. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with usable slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half-cock safety position. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1892 was designed by John M. Browning as a compact companion to the large-frame Model 1886, employing a strong twin-locking-bolt action scaled for Winchester’s smaller centerfire cartridges. It succeeded the Model 1873 and earned a lasting reputation as a smooth, reliable sporting and working arm. In saddle ring carbine form, the Model 1892 was especially well suited to ranch, trail, and mounted use, while the mild-recoiling .32-20 W.C.F. cartridge provided practical utility for small game, varmints, and general field shooting.
Manufactured in 1911, this carbine retains about 5% of its original blue finish, with the balance displaying a dark, well-established patina, intermittent oxidation, erosion, and honest operational wear. The stocks rate in Good condition with modest handling wear, minor losses at the wrist, and an empty sling-stud hole in the buttstock. Its mostly bright bore retains defined rifling with scattered minor erosion and rates 6/10. The action functions correctly, the trigger is crisp, and the hammer retains its half-cock position. With its 20-inch round barrel, full-length magazine, traditional carbine sights, and well-aged frontier character, this Winchester remains an appealing representative of one of Browning’s most enduring lever-action designs.
