Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed and screw set to the barrel. The rear sight is a v-notch elevator sight, dovetailed to the barrel. The notch is fine elevation adjustable. The tang is installed with a Lyman tang sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are 2-piece smooth walnut with capped forend, straight grip, straight comb and metal crescent buttplate. The stocks show light handling marks and compressions. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 12 7/8" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The pate has taken to a dark mottled patina with scattered erosion and wear at the heel and toe. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good condition as refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with well defined rifling .There is light erosion. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 6/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 60% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows operational and handling wear. There is thinning on the leading edges. There is intermittent oxidation and patina. Most of the case color has muted with some color preserved in the protected areas. The screw heads show signs of light tooling, but still have strong and serviceable slots. The pins are unmarred. The markings are clear and legible. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half-cock safety position. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1892 was John M. Browning’s compact, smooth-handling successor to the Model 1873, built around the strong locking system developed for the larger Model 1886. Winchester offered the ’92 in both solid-frame and takedown forms, with the .25 W.C.F. chambering added in 1895. Combining a 24-inch octagonal barrel with convenient takedown construction, this rifle reflects the versatility that made the Model 1892 a favorite among sportsmen and continues to attract Winchester collectors.
This rifle retains about 60% of its original metal finish, with protected case coloring, clear markings, and an appealing blend of remaining blue and naturally aged patina. The refinished walnut stocks remain solid and rate about Very Good, showing only light handling marks and compressions. Its mostly bright bore retains well-defined rifling and rates 6/10, while the action functions correctly with a crisp trigger. The Lyman tang sight, full-length octagonal barrel, crescent buttplate, and takedown configuration give this early .25-20 Model 1892 considerable collector and sporting appeal.
