Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “-MODEL 92- WINCHESTER-25-20 W.C.F.- / -TRADE MARK-”. The right side of the barrel is marked “MADE IN U.S.A. WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. / -NEW HAVEN, CONN.-”. The top of the barrel and receiver are marked with Winchester WP proofs. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 92 / -WINCHESTER- / TRADE MARK REG.U.S. PAT. OFF & FGN.". The bottom of the receiver is marked "946730".

Barrel Length: 20”, Round

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade pinned in a slotted base fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a ladder sight (u-notch when down, u-notch slider when up), dovetailed to the barrel. The top tang is drilled, tapped, and filled for a tang sight (none present).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are 2-piece smooth walnut with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb and steel carbine-style buttplate. The stocks have light scattered handling wear. There is a notable nick on the right side of the wrist. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 12 3/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate.The plate has some scuffs on the heel and toe which have removed some of the finish. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is some faint erosion reserved in the muzzle portion of the bore but the rest of the bore is clean and bright. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 7/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. There is finish loss at the ends of the barrel and magtube. There are scratches, scuffs, and small nicks. There is some scattered finish wear on the receiver which has introduced some discoloration. The action shows light operational wear. The markings are clear. The screw heads are sharp to faintly tool marked with strong slots. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half-cock safety position. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine made in 1926 and chambered in .25-20 Winchester. This vintage rifle has seen nearly all of the 20th Century and will still make a nice addition to a collection in the 21st. The .25-20 is still a very viable small game, fur bearing, and trapping cartridge. This 1892 carbine will make a great addition to a Winchester collection missing an 1892.
