Markings:  The left side of the barrel is marked, “MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S. OF AMERICA— / —WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL— / WINCHESTER / —TRADE MARK— / 2 ¾ CHAM. / MODEL 12-12 GA. / FULL" and with a Winchester "WP" proof mark offset to the left to accommodate the factory rib.  The top of the receiver is marked with a Winchester "WP" proof mark.  The base of the receiver and the receiver extension are both marked with the serial number.  The base of the receiver extension  is also stamped "MODEL-12-TRAP".  

Sights / Optics:  There is a silver-colored bead at the muzzle. 

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The high grade walnut stocks are two piece wood with a pistol grip, fluted straight comb, Winchester soft rubber buttpad, and a  checkered pump slide.  The refinished stock shows just a few scattered pressure dents and handling wear — mostly on the forend.  There are no chips, cracks or areas of finish loss.  The LOP measures 14" from the front of the trigger to the rear of the buttpad.  The stock rates a Fine condition.

Bore Condition:  The bore is mirror-bright. There is no erosion, and just a little lead fouling in the choke area and a few scratches.  In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.  

Overall Condition:  This shotgun retains about 70% of its metal finish.  There are some corrosion freckles on the right side of the receiver.  Some of the barrel has gone to patina. There is fading on both receiver and barrel, blueing loss on the leading edges and underside of the receiver and at the muzzle.  There is operational wear in the form of draglines on the barrel and loss on the mag tube.  The markings remain clear.   Overall, this shotgun rates a Very Good condition.

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly.  We have not fired this shotgun.  As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 12 shotgun is an icon in the Winchester line.  You know a gun was designed and built right when over two million copies were produced over a 60-plus year span.  It is a highly regarded pump-action firearm celebrated for its ruggedness, adaptability, and reliability.  It was the only gun ever offered in over 100 different variations or configurations over its lifetime.  

This is Trap Gun variation of the Model 12, first offered in 1930.  It was offered in the same quality as the standard grade gun, but with a raised matted rib, full choke, and with fine checkering on both grip and slide handle.  12, 16, and 20 gauge were all offered.     

This one has been well taken care of.  Its action is tight and its professionally refinished stock is in Fine condition.  The barrel has partially gone to patina but there is very little corrosion in evidence.
