The expiration of Smith & Wesson’s patent on the bored-through cylinder in 1869 led Colt to design the revolutionary M-1873 Single Action Army, which soon earned the moniker the “Peacemaker”, “Equalizer”, and “gun that won the West”. Carried by soldiers, lawmen, ranchers, rustlers, cowboys, and outlaws alike, the Colt Peacemaker quickly became synonymous with the untamed wilds of the American West. This Vintage 1960s Unbranded Colt 5.5" SAA "Texas Jock Strap" Leather Pistol Holster & Gun Belt Rig is in Very Good Condition, with some scattered drying, wrinkling, crazing, scratching, and age wear evident. Most interestingly, the holster is crafted in the classic “Texas Jock Strap” style, a variant of the “Mexican single loop” design, with a high curved throat, a loop that wraps across and down the middle of the body, and a folded over skirt that also acts as the belt slide (the loop system is sewn with leather lacing to the right side of the belt, fixing the holster in place), bears elegant hand carved floral tooling throughout, and features brown leather lacing along the right side of the body. The holster measures 3“ wide across the top opening, and 8“ long down the straight side, making it ideal for a Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army revolver with a 5.5” barrel, features a purpose made open toe, and is constructed of tough, rigid, yet fairly supple brown saddle leather. Both the holster and belt are unmarked as to their maker or date, though they were clearly made by the same hand, and likely date to the 1960s. The belt too is constructed of tough, rigid, yet fairly supple brown saddle leather, bears matching elegant hand carved floral tooling throughout, and sports 8 riveted leather shell loops for .44 WCF/.45 LC ammo along the left side. The belt measures 47 1/2" long overall x 3" wide, carries a fully functional metal front buckle closure, and the set is a fine example of a rare, original Vintage 1960s Unbranded Colt 5.5" SAA "Texas Jock Strap" Leather Pistol Holster & Gun Belt Rig.
