This Vintage 1950s Winchester Western “Start Him Right” Model 61 63 67 .22 Rifles “Boy And His Father” Framed Advertising Poster is in Very Good Plus condition, with a vertical line of creasing down the middle and a horizontal line of creasing across the middle, undoubtedly from having been “folded in quarters” long ago before being framed, some light surface fraying at the lower middle from the vertical fold, some light darkening and discoloration, some light scattered tearing to the brown paper backing of the frame, and with some light overall age wear evident. Most interestingly, it exhibits a Norman Rockwell-esque illustration of a young man who’s just been gifted a Winchester Model 67 .22 bolt action rifle by his father (who bears a passing resemblance to actor Jimmy Stewart), with the snappy advertising line “START HIM RIGHT-RIGHT NOW! / there’s a WINCHESTER 22 / for every purse and purpose” printed across the upper front, and depictions of Winchester’s other 22s, the pump action Model 61 and semi-automatic Model 63 at the lower front. It also promotes some Winchester booklets, ammunition, and their “W” layaway time payment plan. The beautifully framed and mounted piece overall measures 37” x 27”, and is ready to hang in your gun room. It carries “WINCHESTER-WESTERN DIVISION-OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORPORATION-NEW HAVEN 4. CONN.” printed along the lower left front corner; the old style one digit “postal zone” number denotes pre-1963 manufacture.
