In the late 1930s, so the legend goes, W.D. "Bo" Randall, an orange grower, was vacationing in western Michigan, the stomping grounds of the renowned knife maker William Scagel. One day, Randall saw a man industriously scraping paint from his boat with a remarkable looking knife; a knife that proved to be a Scagel. The fellow could not be persuaded to part with it, and Randall therefore determined to try his hand at making one like it. Over 75 years and 200,000 Randall knives later, Randall is one of the best known knife makers of all time. Randall fighting knives such as the Model #1 “All Purpose Fighter” and Model #2 “Fighting Stiletto” were carried by US servicemen in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. This Vintage 1950s Randall Model #2 "Fighting Stiletto" Knife is in Good Condition, with some light rounding and chipping to the blade tip, some sharpening to the blade edges, some cleaning, scratching, and pitting at each side of the blade, some verdigris patina to the guard, some scattered nicking and scratching to the handle and pommel, and with some overall age wear evident. Most interestingly, it features a 6 7/8” bright double edge dagger blade, sports the classic “commando” shaped stacked brown leather washer handle, and is deeply stamped vertically along the ricasso with their traditional maker’s mark, “RANDALL MADE / ORLANDO, FLA.”. It boasts a full brass guard and a duralumin pommel with screw nut, carries 5 colored fiber spacers under the guard (thick red, thin white, thick black, thin white, thick red) and 3 colored fiber spacers above the pommel (thick red, thin white, thick black), dates to the 1950s, and is complete with the original Vintage 1950s Randall H.H. Heiser Made “Brown Button” Brown Leather Scabbard in Good Condition, with some surface tearing to each side of the handle retention strap, some light indenting to the lower portion of the whetstone pocket at front, some light upward curling to the bottom front end tip, and with some scattered scratching, darkening, and age wear evident. Most interestingly, it bears the classic 1950s “RANDALL MADE / ORLANDO, FLA.” brown button snap closures on the leather handle retention strap and the whetstone pocket at front, both of which remain fully functional, retains the original gray sharpening stone inside that pocket, and is stamped at the upper back belt loop with the traditional oval “saddler” style logo of its maker, the famous “H.H. HEISER / MAKER / DENVER, COLO.”, along with the model number “2”. The consignor of this knife relates it was owned by Peder Lund, the founder of Paladin Press, one of the preeminent firearms, martial arts, and self-defense publishers of the late 20th century. The set is a fine example of a very rare, original Vintage 1950s Randall Model #2 "Fighting Stiletto" Knife.
