Daisy’s printed advertising jingle for their No. 118 “Targeteer” air pistol has a nice ring to it, but we can’t imagine the mother who would join in on shooting an air pistol inside the house! Either way, whether Mom was hitting bullseyes or railing against the fact that one of these could “put someone’s eye out”, these Daisy Targeteer air pistols are a wonderful glimpse into the simpler times of the post-war “nuclear family”, when shooting was still very much a family activity, and indoor plinking with BBs was considered wholesome entertainment. From 1949-1953, Daisy produced the No. 118 “Targeteer” air pistol with a bright chrome plated finish, and sold it with a unique red plastic “Targette” shooting gallery target, all in a brown cardboard “targette” box. This Vintage 1950s Daisy No. 118 “Targeteer” Chrome Plated Steel .118 Caliber Air Pistol Set is in Very Good condition, with some scattered dark spotting and nicking to the playing card “spinners” of the target from being hit with BBs over the years, some scattered edge scuffing and tearing to the box, some light scratching to the pistol, and with some scattered age wear evident. Most interestingly, the pistol functions correctly, although we have not tested whether it’s still capable of firing BBs, retains a great amount of the original bright chrome plated finish, and is stamped “DAISY NO. 118 / TARGETEER / CALIBRE .118 PATENT 2,132,173 OTHERS PENDING / DAISY MFG. CO. PLYMOUTH, MICH. U.S.A.” along the top of the barrel. It comes with the original “DAISY / TARGETTE” red plastic “shooting gallery” target with white plastic playing card “spinners”, which exhibits a slot in the left side to actually rest the pistol, and circular spots in the lower back to insert tubes of ammo (none include) to act as feet, and the set is complete with the original “DAISY / Targette” brown cardboard box with some classic “comic book” style advertising illustrated graphics.
