Black Americana is its entire own subset of antiques collecting, and rarely does the genre cross over into that of firearms. This Vintage 1920s Hercules Powder Co. "I'se done lost de lunch" Black Americana Advertising Poster is in Good Condition, with some scattered small nicks and tears along the side edges, some more notable tears at the bottom right edge, some brownish spotting along the entire bottom edge just above the metal edge trim, some wrinkling along the entire lower quarter, and with some overall fragility and age wear evident. Most interestingly, it measures 25 1/8” x 15 1/2”, remains well protected with a tight fitting plastic wrap securing it to a poster board backing (this is a perfect temporary means of protection until it’s framed by the next owner if they so desire), and boasts a crisp illustration at front, with a racist caricature of two African American men in the snow with an eager hunting dog at their side in the foreground, an Old West style fence and some leafless trees in the background, and the Ebonics sentence “I’se done lost de lunch” across the bottom of the scene. The taller of the two men carries a double barrel shotgun and is reaching into his shell bag, only to realize there’s a hole in the bottom and they have no shells, and thus no means to hunt for sustenance. It bears the printed signature of the illustrator, “F.M. Spiegle”, neatly tucked into the snow at the lower right front, above the printed date and maker, “1923 by HERCULES POWDER CO.”, carries “HERCULES E.C. & INFALLIBLE / SMOKELESS SHOTGUN POWDERS / L.&R. ORANGE EXTRA / BLACK SPORTING POWDER / HERCULES POWDER CO.” printed in large blue lettering across the lower front, along with “AMERICAN LITHOGRAPH CO., N.Y.” in very small blue font at the middle bottom front, and features blue finished metal trim at the top and bottom edges.
