Good Condition. Moderate chipping to the blade edge. Moderate cleaning, scratching, and pitting to the blade. Moderate uneven bending to the right side of the “clamshell” guard. Some loosening to the ribbed grip. Some crazing and finish abrading to the upper front and back leather covered metal sheath. Features a 32” straight bright fullered blade, sports the classic brass “clamshell” and “D” guard, ribbed grip, and ball finial pommel, and is stamped at the ricasso with its maker, the famous “HORSTMANN / & SONS / PHILADELPHIA”. The downward curved left side of the “clamshell” guard and lack of any “U.S.”, inspector, or date stamps distinguish this as the scarce USMC M-1840 NCO sword, as opposed to the far more common US Army M-1840 NCO sword.
