The fact that the United States, of course combined with the efforts of the other members of the “Big Four” (Britain, Russia, and China), fought and defeated Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan at the height of their nefarious powers, is an incredible testament to the might of the American war machine, from the front lined armed forces to the manufacturing and rationing effort on the home front. The US government printed a variety of “propaganda” posters to encourage the best effort of folks on the home front to support the war effort, ranging from buying war bonds, to putting forth maximum effort at their jobs, to keeping quiet about troop movements so as to not put the lives of American servicemen at risk. This US WW2 Home Front Navy Sailor "...because somebody talked!" Framed Original Propaganda Poster is in Very Good Condition, with one vertical fold line running down the middle, three horizontal fold lines running across the upper, middle, and lower, a few very small tears at the three intersections of those fold lines running down the middle, a very small tear in the upper portion of the black paper backing, and with some scattered age wear evident. Most interestingly, it remains beautifully matted in a 33” x 25” gilt finished wood frame, sports a hanging wire across the upper back, and boasts a crisp illustration at front, with “…because somebody talked!” printed in white along the lower front, a “gold star” banner, denoting a family member lost in service, hanging on a wall at middle, and a Cocker Spaniel looking wistfully for the return of its owner at the lower front, with its snout perched atop a chair with a US Navy “crackerjack” jumper draped over the back. It carries the first name of the illustrator and the year, “WESLEY / ‘43” (Wesley Heyman, 1943) printed in black at the lower right front, bears “U.S. GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE” and the date of “1944” printed in small black font at the bottom left front corner, and exhibits “Distributed for the issuing agencies by the Office of War Information” printed in small black font at the bottom right front corner.
