Historical Background: The US Office of Strategic Services was formed on June 13, 1942, and, modeled after England's Secret Intelligence agency MI6 and Special Operations Executive (SOE), was tasked with intelligence gathering, espionage, sabotage, and organizing resistance groups in almost every theater of war. Led by the famous General William "Wild Bill" Donovan, the OSS developed their own series of innovative ordnance and weapons for their clandestine missions. Hand to hand combat training for OSS operatives was conducted by Captains W.E. Fairbairn and Anthony Sykes, the designers of the classic Fairbairn-Sykes dagger used by British Commandos, and soon an official issue fighting knife of the OSS was adopted, closely modeled after the iconic F-S design.
