Good Condition. In regards to the jungle jacket, the size tag is missing from the inside neck, and there's heavy tearing along the interior back collar, some scattered fraying and whitish paint staining throughout, and a few small tears at back. In regards to the green beret, the sizing ties have been removed from the back sweatband, as was commonly done in the field, and there's some stitch repairing at that back sweatband. A wonderful grouping named and identified to Sergeant John L. McGeary, who served as a communications NCO in Vietnam from ca. late 1964 to 1967. The grouping includes the following: his 2nd pattern poplin jungle jacket with full color Special forces patch and tab at the left shoulder, full color embroidered jump wings at the left chest, subdued printed "U.S. ARMY" HBT BOS tab and "McGEARY" name tape at the left and right chest, respectively, and full color embroidered on twill Sergeant First Class chevrons at the sleeves. The jungle jacket is dated 1966 (DSA 100) on the original nomenclature tag inside. His original Special Forces green beret, with a very scarce all black Naugahyde flash with a Special Forces "DE OPPRESSO LIBER" crest at front. The beret is a Size 6 5/8, and dated 1966 (DSA 100) in the original nomenclature stamping inside. His in-country made plaque with "FOB 1" painted at the upper front, and the Special Forces crest, a 5th SF green beret, and the Special Forces patch and tab painted at the middle front, above the pinned brass name plate, "McGeary, JOHN L.". A photo of the Headquarters, 5th Special Forces Group in Vietnam, with a list of every man in the photo by rank and assignment notated in pencil at back, along with "C-4 DEC 1964 NHA TRANG". Sgt. McGeary is depicted in the photo and listed at back. A Special Forces "A" Detachment JFK Special Warfare Center promotional flier showing SFC John L. McGeary, and listing the languages he speaks, "Rumanian, Spanish and Portuguese". A New York Sunday News paper clipping from January 16, 1966 with a map of the Vietnam War at one side. Lastly, his "U.S. / CAMILLUS N.Y." marked Ka-Bar fighting knife, black overdyed leather "BOYT / -42-" .45 Pistol M-1916 Belt Holster, black leather "HUNTER CORP." .45 M-7 Shoulder Holster, 1964 dated compass, small pair of commercial field glasses, 1967 dated Class A dress tunic with the Special Forces patch and tab at the left shoulder and USARV patch at the right shoulder, 1980s woodland camo BDU badged to McGeary and with the patch of the 2nd Armored Division at the left chest, and his 1972 dated kit bag.
