The spurs are constructed in steel and feature decorative engraving along the shanks with multi-point rowels. The spur shanks display the traditional sweeping "gal leg" profile which became popular among working cowboys in the late 19th and early 20th centuries due to its distinctive look and comfortable fit on the heel.

These spurs are marked with the small star associated with the "Star Brand" marking used by North & Judd Manufacturing Company of New Britain, Connecticut. North & Judd was established in 1878 and became one of the largest American producers of equestrian hardware including spurs, bits, and saddle hardware. Their Anchor Brand trademark was registered in 1879. The company later expanded its spur production when it purchased the August Buermann Manufacturing Company of Newark, New Jersey in 1926, followed by the acquisition of O.B. North & Co. in 1930.

August Buermann was one of the most influential spur makers in the United States, producing a wide range of English, military, Mexican, and cowboy style spurs from 1868 until his death in 1926. Buermann spurs were known for their quality construction and recognizable markings. After acquiring the Buermann company, North & Judd continued producing many of the established Buermann-style spur patterns and marks. The star marking seen on these spurs reflects that continuation of Buermann influenced designs.

These spurs show age appropriate patina and wear consistent with use. The engraved decoration remains visible and the rowels remain intact.
