Sights/Optics: The front sight is a serrated, ramped blade fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a square notched leaf pinned to the topstrap adjustable for windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration and Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth walnut panels with inset silver-colored Rampant Colt medallions. The inside of each panel has "010" hand-written in white. The grips have a few scattered minor marks with one more notable scratch on the bottom. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is generally sharp. Oddly, at the muzzle-end, the rifling in the bottom of the bore remains quite strong while the lands in the top of the bore just go away. There is infrequent minor erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6-7/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 85% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. There is a patch of erosion on the bottom of the barrel in front of the cylinder pin. There is some scattered light wear, mostly on the ejector housing and the outside of the cylinder. There is light handling wear in the grip areas. The action shows operational wear including turn-wear on the cylinder. There are tool marks around most screw heads. The screw heads are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with a two-piece cardboard Stagecoach box. The bottom of the tray has a non-matching serial number hand-written.

Our Assessment: On offer here is the adjustable sighted cousin of Colt's legendary Single Action Army, the New Frontier Single Action Army. While the original SAA revolvers have rugged, fixed sights, the New Frontier has a ramped front sight and adjustable rear sight, giving it a rather contemporary appearance. This is a fairly early example, made in 1963 during the 2nd Generation of SAA production. The revolver is in Very Good condition, retaining 85% of its original metal finish and has a very nice case colored flat-top frame. This model has a 7 1/2″ barrel giving it a stupendous sight radius for target shooting, making for a very accurate revolver that the shooters will appreciate. Chambered for the original .45 Colt, it should make a decent target revolver and could even be used for handgun hunting. Interestingly, the rifling appears to have made it past Colt's QC with the lands in the top of the barrel going smooth near the muzzle while the bottom remain strong throughout. This makes an interesting, if not perfect specimen to add to a collection. Good luck and happy budding!
