Sights/Optics: The front sight is a bladed post dovetailed into a base between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight that folds up for shooting at a distance.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The custom two-piece wood furniture has a straight wrist grip with finger groove, rounded off forend, two sling loops, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has light handling wear with some minor oxidation. The wood shows pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. The buttstock has been noticeably sanded. The LOP measures about 13" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. There is some play between furniture and receiver. The furniture rates in Good condition.

Type of Finish: Suncorite

Finish Originality: Original to arsenal refurbishment (FTR marked)

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is fairly sharp with stubborn fouling. There is light erosion with a few very small spots of oxidation in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 7/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its metal finish. The finish shows edge wear, scattered scratches, along with general handling and operational wear. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. The markings are legible and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Sling

Our Assessment: The Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk I/2 is an arsenal-converted variant of the British No.4 rifle rather than a separate new-production model. When the No.4 Mk 2 was adopted in 1949, its principal mechanical change was relocating the trigger pivot from the trigger guard to the receiver body, providing a more consistent trigger pull regardless of stock fit. At the same time, existing No.4 Mk I rifles selected for conversion to the new trigger arrangement were redesignated No.4 Mk I/2. Most of these conversions were performed during Factory Thorough Repair at Royal Ordnance Factory Fazakerley. This example, serial number B018317, bears the FTR treatment and Suncorite finish characteristic of postwar British refurbishment. Suncorite was commonly applied during FTR over prepared or phosphated metal surfaces. It was subsequently imported by Interarms and later substantially sporterized, including shortening the barrel to 19 7/8" and replacing or modifying the military furniture.

This rifle retains about 85% of its arsenal-refurbished Suncorite finish, with edge wear, scattered scratches, and general handling and operational wear. The custom two-piece wood furniture rates in Good condition with pressure dings, scuffs, scratches, noticeable sanding to the buttstock, and some play between the furniture and receiver, but no chips or cracks. The bore is semi-bright with fairly sharp rifling, stubborn fouling, light erosion, and a few very small oxidation spots, rating 7/10. The shortened barrel and sporterized furniture substantially alter the rifle from its British military configuration, though the original Fazakerley FTR history remains evident. The action functions correctly, the markings remain legible and complete, and the rifle includes a sling. Overall, this sporterized ROF Fazakerley No.4 Mk I/2 rates in Very Good condition.
