Markings: The serialized parts match. The top of the receiver is marked “with the Izhevsk logo (Triangle with Arrow) / CH 7667 / 1942 / hammer and sickle wreath / more factory stamps throughout”.

Barrel Length: 28.75”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is hooded post dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a flip up peep sight screwed and soldered to the barrel.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished stock is a two piece wood with a straight grip, straight comb, metal nose cap, cut out for the cleaning rod, two barrel bands, two sling eyelets, through bolt, and a metal buttplate. There are light scratches and compression marks. There are light scuffs on the buttstock. The toe has been replaced. There are spots of furniture finish loss throughout. The LOP measures 13.25” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Finish Originality: Original.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is defined. There is no erosion visible in the bore. There is fouling in the bore. In this writer's opinion, this bore rates 9 out of 10. The bore is not counterbored.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling and storage wear. There are scratches and minimal fading throughout. There is operational wear on the bolt. There are some scratches on the barrel. The screw heads are lightly tooled. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates a Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Mosin-Nagant family of rifles produced over 37 million copies, one of the most mass produced military rifles in history. It was first tested in combat in Afghanistan in 1893 and continues to be seen in conflicts to this day. Chambered in 7.62x54R, it carried significant power to the battlefield.

The 91/30 was a refurbishment of the earlier Model 1891, with its shortened barrel, flat rear sight, and hooded front sight post. It was the workhorse of the Great Patriotic War (aka WWII) with over 17 million copies were This example carries the familiar wartime markings—Izhevsk’s triangle-and-arrow crest above the 1942 date—signifying manufacture during one of the most intense years of the conflict. 1942 saw the bulk of the Siege of Stalingrad.

This rifle has had a stock repair to the toe and the resultant refinish. It has a good bore and should likely still shoot well. It is in unusually good shape. Serial numbered parts match. It comes with a M1891 bayonet.
