Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated, ramped blade integral to the frame's barrel-shroud. The rear sight is an adjustable square-notch screwed to the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered wood with silver-colored S&W medallions.

Type of Finish: Matte Black Alloy Frame with Blued Steel Slide

Finish Originality: Original. There is a Red Rock Trading Post import-mark on the bottom of the sideplate at the magazine-well. There are foreign proof-marks on the slide and frame.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 90% of its original finish. There is wear on the leading edges of the frame and slide, and tape residue is present around the barrel-shroud. The action is dirty but appears mechanically sound and should clean up easily. The screw heads are sharp and the markings are clear. Overall, this pistol rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this handgun. As with all used firearms, a full cleaning is recommended to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included are a non-matching box, manual, and a total of two magazines, one 12-round and one 10-round (still in packaging).

Our Assessment: The Smith & Wesson Model 422 is a unique and lightweight semi-auto rimfire pistol, known for its low bore axis, threaded barrel, and great accuracy. The 6.75" barrel provides excellent sight radius, while the alloy frame keeps it light and handy—ideal for suppressed shooting, plinking, or training. This example shows wear from honest use and storage but remains functional and includes an extra magazine. With a bit of cleaning and a grip screw replacement, this would make a great range companion or host for a suppressor. Please see our photos and good luck!
