Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramp blade with a red insert, it is set on a ramped base integral to the barrel rib. The rear sight is a flat top, square notched and white outlined leaf in a base that is micrometer click adjustable for windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth Goncalo Alves Target stocks with an extractor "football" cut and S&W medallions. The left panel has a spot of stubborn residue at the bottom-rear corner from the case's flock lining. The grips otherwise have only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Fine condition and should clean to Excellent.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There are a couple of patches of minor erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, this bore rates 8+ out of 10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The action shows minor operational wear with a faint turn-line on the cylinder, not through the finish. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a wood presentation case, cleaning rod, brush, mop, and grooved alloy-handle screwdriver. The interior of the case has degraded blue flock lining.

Our Assessment: This is Smith & Wesson’s model 25-5, a heavy barreled target revolver chambered in .45 Colt with a 8 3/8″ barrel, adjustable sights, and Goncalo Alves target stocks. The Model 25, and its pre-numbered version, are built on the N-Frame, were in production from 1955 to 1991 and have made later appearances in the "Heritage" and "Classics" series from Smith & Wesson. This example comes in a presentation case with the dreaded blue flock that has broken the hearts of many S&W collectors. While there is some stubborn residue on left grip panel, the lining has mercifully spared the metal. The revolver has hardly any wear and comes with cleaning accessories stored in the case's lidded compartment. This will make a great addition to a Smith & Wesson or revolver collection, one the collectors won’t want to miss out on given its high condition. Please see our pictures and good luck!
