Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”, and the right “.38 S.&W. SPL.”. The sideplate bears the S&W monogram, and the right side of the frame reads “MADE IN U.S.A. / MARCAS REGISTRADAS / SMITH & WESSON / SPRINGFIELD, MASS.”. The butt is stamped “R126710”. The yoke cut is marked “MOD. 60”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramped blade integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch in the topstrap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are factory walnut Magna stocks with S&W medallions. The checkering is mildly worn, and there are scattered shallow marks from carry and handling. No cracks or chips are present. The grips rate in about Good to Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion, but there is light fouling from prior use. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 92% of its metal finish. There are scattered scuffs and light scratches throughout, typical of carry and holster use. There are carbon rings on the front face of the cylinder and polish wear around the sideplate and high-contact points. The screw heads are clean and serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder locks up tightly with minor rotational play and the timing is solid in both double- and single-action. Trigger pull is smooth in DA and breaks cleanly in SA. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Accessories: Included is a vintage brown Bianchi #3 leather thumb-break holster with classic basketweave pattern and crisp “#3” and “Bianchi” stamping on the back. The leather is supple and well-fitted. Also included are two HKS Model 36 speedloaders—perfect companions to this J-frame setup.
