Sights / Optics: The front sight is a Hi-Viz blade with a red fiber optic insert, it is pinned to a ramped base integral to the rib. The rear sight is a square notch S&W micrometer sight that is mounted on the topstrap. Under the rear sight, the topstrap is drilled and tapped. Also included is a plain blade front sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a one-piece S&W monogram Hogue Monogrip pebble-textured black rubber stock that completely covers the grip frame with finger grooves. There are no major defects. There is light handling wear and the texturing is strong. Overall, the grip is in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is a little stubborn copper fouling. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9+/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. There is a thin turn line on the cylinder. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a serial matching case, the uninstalled sight, an additional muzzle brake, key for the internal locking system, cable lock, and paperwork including the manual.

Our Assessment: The S&W 500 is built on S&W’s largest frame, the X-Frame, which was developed because none of S&W’s existing double-action frame designs could handle the muzzle energy and pressures generated by the .500 S&W cartridge. It is one of the most powerful production revolvers in the world today, and it is being marketed as being “the world’s most powerful handgun” by S&W. The Model 500 can fire a bullet weighing 350gr at 1975 feet per second generating a muzzle energy of over 3,000 foot-pounds force and a momentum of 13.7 Newton seconds. The Smith & Wesson .500 Special is a shorter cartridge that is fully compatible with this pistol and will be a little easier on your wrists. This revolver looks to have been used infrequently, if at all, and stored properly.
