Sights / Optics: The front sight is a patridge blade on a ramped base pinned to the serrated rib. The rear sight is a standard square notch S&W micrometer sight, adjustable for windage and elevation and is screwed to the top strap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered walnut magna stocks with medallions at their tops. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is sharp and strong. Overall, the grip is in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In my opinion this bore rates 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish is strong and complete throughout. There is little to no operational wear. There is a very faint intermittent turn line. The case color is vibrant. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent - Like New condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup has hardly any play in lockup on each of the six chambers. The single-action is crisp and the double-action is smooth. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Smith & Wesson Model 48 represents one of the company’s most specialized K-frame revolvers, developed to bring the accuracy and handling characteristics of the renowned K-22 Masterpiece line into the higher-velocity .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire cartridge. Introduced in 1959 as the K-22 Masterpiece Magnum Rimfire, the Model 48 was built for shooters who wanted the precision of a target revolver while taking advantage of the increased performance of the .22 Magnum cartridge. Featuring Smith & Wesson’s legendary hand-fitted K-frame action, adjustable sights, and target-grade barrel, the Model 48 became a favorite among small-game hunters, precision shooters, and collectors seeking a less common variation of Smith & Wesson’s classic rimfire revolvers.
This 1962-67 production Model 48-2 is an excellent example of the Magnum Rimfire Masterpiece, retaining approximately 99% of its original blue finish with sharp markings, vibrant case coloring, and minimal evidence of use. The 8 3/8" barrel, factory box, paperwork, cleaning tools, excellent Magna walnut grips, and near-new condition combine to make this a particularly desirable example for the Smith & Wesson collector. With its long target barrel, scarce .22 Magnum chambering, and exceptional condition, this Model 48-2 represents a high-quality example of one of Smith & Wesson’s most distinctive K-frame rimfire revolvers and would be a standout addition to any advanced S&W collection.
