Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade with a white dot dovetailed to a rise at the front of the slide. The rear sight is a square notch Novak's Lo-Mount sight with two white dots dovetailed and screw-set to the rear of the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a one-piece checkered black Xenoy wraparound grip. The grip has minor handling wear with a few scattered small marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grip is in Fine condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some stubborn fouling. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 96% of its metal finish. There are a few minor scuffs and light handling marks. There are spots of stubborn residue in the frontstrap checkering. There is standard operational wear. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included are four 11-round magazines, serial matching Smith & Wesson box, and manual.

Our Assessment: The model 4006 is a 3rd generation Smith with stainless steel construction and a 4" barrel chambered for .40 S&W. The 4006 is a nice host for the .40 S&W cartridge, with the weight of the stainless steel able to absorb some of the recoil of the cartridge and its double-stack frame giving the pistol reasonable capacity for the larger .40 caliber cartridge in the same frame size as a 9mm. This one was not out of the box often, appearing to have seen limited and responsible use. If you're looking for a double-stack .40 and you are used to the SA/DA action, this would be a great option.
