Sights / Optics: The front sight is a globe-style sight with a beaded post. The rear sight is a folding ladder-style sight presenting a "V"-notch when down and with a "V"-notched slider on the ladder. The top tang is drilled and tapped with a folding Stevens-style aperture sight adjustable for windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with a schnabel forend, pistol grip, straight comb, and case color steel semi-crescent buttplate. The stocks have only a few scattered minor marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ and 12 7/8″ from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the buttplate. The plate has infrequent faint oxidation in its otherwise strong color. Overall, the stocks are in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is infrequent minor erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There is a thin scratch across the bottom barrel flat just behind the muzzle. There are a few other scattered light handling marks. The action shows minor operational wear. The screw heads are sharp The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Christian Sharps introduced one of America’s first and most successful breech-loading rifles with design starting in 1850 and improvements continuing into the 1870s and the metallic cartridge era. This rifle is a very high quality reproduction of the 1874 model, a rifle which bridged the gap between muzzle-loading rifles and cartridge rifles. It is breech-loaded with a falling block and chambered for "Caliber 50 2 1/2"", better known today as .50-90. While this same casing was used for .50-100 and .50-110 loadings, the bottom of this rifle's barrel designates it as a .50-90, under the forend. Shiloh Sharps has a well-deserved reputation for making some of the finest Sharps rifles since the originals, probably much better given advances in metallurgy and machining. This rifle appears to have seen little use, in Excellent condition. It should make for a great shooter for the lucky winner or a great addition to a Sharps collection.
