Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded post dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch adjustable for elevation dovetailed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, smooth forend, and a checkered metal buttplate. The buttplate shows only light freckling. The furniture shows a few pressure dings and drag lines. There is a very small chip starting at the top of the butt where it meets the buttplate. The LOP measures 13.25" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with faint fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its nonoriginal metal finish. The finish is very strong showing only a few small scratches and some freckling on the forend cap. The screw heads show little to no tooling and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This second year production Winchester Model 63 was manufactured in 1934 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester shortly after the Model 63 was introduced in 1933, early examples such as this represent the formative years of one of Winchester's most successful semi-automatic rimfire designs. The Model 63 refined the earlier Model 1903 concept into a smoother and more versatile sporting rifle.

Chambered in .22 Long Rifle with a 20 inch barrel, this tube-fed semi-automatic rifle reflects the early production configuration. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10, indicating excellent internal condition. The action functions correctly.

This rifle retains approximately 98% of its nonoriginal metal finish, presenting a very strong example for an early production gun. The refinished furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition with attractive appearance and solid structure. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition and stands as a well-preserved 1934 Winchester Model 63 from the second year of production.
