Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into a serrated a base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation u-notch dovetailed into the barrel. The receiver has a pair of taps for mounting an optic, though none is present.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is two piece wood with a checkered semi pistol grip, raised comb, checkered forend, and a serrated aluminum Savage buttplate. The buttplate has little to no handling wear. The furniture has only a couple light surface scratches. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13.5" from the face of the trigger to the butt. The furniture rates in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. There is light erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8/10.
Overall Condition: This firearm retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The finish shows no notable blemishes. The engravings on the receiver are in Excellent shape with clear detail and clean cuts. There is some old grease in the recesses of the engravings to help protect them. The screw heads are unmarred and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this firearm rates in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Savage Model 99PE (Presentation Edition) was manufactured in 1968 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Savage Arms, the Model 99 is one of the most innovative lever-action rifles ever designed. Featuring a hammerless action and rotary magazine capable of safely handling pointed bullets, the Model 99 offered bolt-action performance in a fast-handling lever-action platform. The Presentation Edition added upgraded wood with an engraved coin finished receiver, making it one of the more desirable factory variations.
Chambered in .308 Winchester with a 22 inch barrel, this rifle combines the proven Model 99 action with one of the most versatile hunting cartridges ever developed. The .308 Winchester has earned an outstanding reputation for accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness on a wide range of North American game. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8 out of 10, indicating solid internal condition with good rifling. The action functions correctly.
