Sights/Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a v-notch dovetailed into the barrel.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is two piece wood with a smooth straight wrist grip and smooth forend. The wood shows only some minor pressure dings and drag lines with some old blemishes that have been sanded and finished over. The buttplate has very light pitting and moderate handling wear. There is a very faint crack running from the upper tang. The furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 20% of its finish. The finish on the receiver is strong with only faint wear. The barrel has been treated with cold blue, which has now mostly worn away. The barrel also shows some notable scuffs on the flats, mostly located towards the muzzle end. The screw heads show little to no tooling and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this firearm rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Remington No. 4 "Solid Frame" was manufactured between 1890 and 1900 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic firearm. Produced by Remington Arms Company, the No. 4 was one of Remington's most successful lightweight sporting rifles and utilized the company's legendary rolling block action. The early Solid Frame configuration predates the later Lever Take-Down models and is especially appreciated for its simple, durable construction and historical significance. These rifles became favorites among sportsmen for target shooting, plinking, and small game hunting during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The receiver exhibits strong, attractive case hardening, while the remaining metal surfaces show significant finish wear consistent with the rifle's age and use.
