Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into a base fixed to the barrel. The face of the base is serrated to reduce glare. There are two taps that have screws in them towards the rear of the barrel. The rear sight is a receiver/tang mounted folding aperture. 

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, straight wrist grip, schnabel forend, and a serrated metal buttplate. The wood shows moderate wear with scattered pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. There is a repaired crack on the lower left side of the forend. There are no chips. This furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original, numbers match.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is light  erosion at the muzzle end of the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its metal finish. The metal shows scattered wear marks, surface scratches, and small spots of oxidation. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a strong late production example of Remington's pioneering semi automatic sporting rifle, retaining approximately 85% of its original finish. The metal surfaces show a pleasing mix of remaining blue and honest wear consistent with careful field use, and the rifle retains matching numbered parts, an important point of originality for Model 8 collectors. The stock and fore end present well and maintain the classic profile associated with John M. Browning's long recoil design.

Mechanically, the rifle is in solid condition. The bore rates 8.5 out of 10 with good brightness and clearly defined rifling, indicating expected use with solid remaining accuracy potential. The long recoil action functions correctly, cycling smoothly and locking up as intended. The 22" barrel gives the rifle a balanced sporting profile and allows the .30 Remington cartridge to perform effectively.

Historically, the Model 8 holds a significant place in American firearms development as one of the earliest successful semi automatic hunting rifles. Chambered in .30 Remington, it offered hunters a powerful and fast follow up capability during the early twentieth century and saw use by sportsmen as well as law enforcement agencies of the era. A 1929 production example like this represents the mature stage of Model 8 production, combining proven reliability with refined manufacturing.

With strong remaining finish, matching numbers, a good bore, and correct mechanical function, this rifle stands as a desirable and historically important example of Remington's early semi automatic rifle lineage.
