Sights / Optics: There is no provision for iron sights. The top of the receiver has two pairs of drilled, tapped, and filled holes.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one-piece skipline checkered walnut with a pistol grip, monte carlo comb with cheekpiece, black caps, white spacers, checkered black plastic RACo monogram buttplate, and sling studs front and rear. There is a nick in the belly between the rear stud and the grip cap. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the checkered black hard rubber buttplate. The plate has no notable wear or damage with well defined checkering. The stock rates in about Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original, the bolt is serial-matching.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is sharp. There is scattered minor erosion in the bore, mostly at the muzzle. In this writers opinion, the bore rates 7-8/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There is some finish wear and minor oxidation on the face of the muzzle. There is minor operational wear. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Remington 700 needs no introduction, it has been one of the most popular bolt action rifles in America for decades, seeing use in target shooting, hunting, and in law enforcement. Remington had been producing sporting rifles for decades, but their Post-WWI Model 30 Sporter took too much time and money to make. After WWII they designed the Model 721 which used a receiver made of bar stock, meaning it could be turned on a lathe, cutting production time and cost. The basic design of the 721 went through further developments under the direction of engineer Mike Walker, and Remington went on to produce the Model 722 and Model 725, and finally, in 1962, the Model 700 was born. With the design, Walker desired to increase accuracy over previous designs so tight bore & chamber tolerances, a short lead, and fast lock time were used. Since its inception, it has been produced in just about any caliber and configuration you could think of.

This 700 is a classic in the truest sense of the word. While the .220 Swift is a cartridge older than the 700 Model itself, it was not offered in the 700 until 1992 as part of their Classic Limited series. Marked as "*FIRST PRODUCTION*" and built in a BDL Varmint configuration, this rifle shows signs of storage outside its box (missing, unfortunately), but little sign of actual use. These Classic Limited rifles are prized by Remington collectors, and the .220 Swift BDL Varmint is equally prized by varmint hunters.
