Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated blade dovetailed to a boss at the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a "V"-notch integral to the rear toggle.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered walnut panels. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Excellent condition as not original to the gun.

Type of Finish: Blued & Strawed

Finish Originality: Most finish is Original with numbered parts matching. The grip safety has been refinished or replaced.

Bore Condition: The bore is gray with well defined rifling. There is erosion scattered through the bore, more notable in the grooves. There is some light pitting in the grooves. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5-6 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 25% of its metal finish. Strongest finish is in the grip safety which has been refinished or replaced. The frame is cut for a bolt-stop, but it is missing. There is fairly evenly scattered wear, most going to a light patina, and light surface oxidation. There is some scattered minor surface erosion. There are scattered nicks, scuffs and \scratches. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are generally clear, some are worn, but legible. Overall, this pistol is in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The frame is cut for a bolt stop, but it is missing. Otherwise, the action functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a single 8-round magazine with aluminum floorplate. The plate was marked "MADE IN DENMARK", this marking has been mostly removed.

Our Assessment: The Luger is most famous for its association with the German military, with many also seeing service in Switzerland. There was commercial demand, notably in America. There were also a number of smaller contracts. The Portuguese Naval pistols are among the most scarce, and the original pistols shipped to the Kingdom of Portugal before the October 1910 revolution numbered 350 pistols of the 1,000 that would eventually be delivered.

This example, number 240, was among those first pistols delivered to the Kingdom, identified by the crown marking on the chamber ring which would later be replaced with a Republican mark. The grip safety has been refinished or replaced and the bolt stop is missing. The grips have been replaced and the magazine is of later Danish production. The pistol is otherwise Original and matching, showing wear that could be considered light given its age and use around salt water.
