Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramped blade integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a square-notch sight milled into the top strap.

Grip Configuration & Condition: The grips are smooth walnut with gold Colt medallions. They show no significant wear and rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion or fouling in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The gun appears to have been only factory fired, with no significant signs of wear or handling. The screw heads are sharp, and the markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lock-up is tight, the cylinder rotation is smooth, and the trigger pull is crisp in both single and double action. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Colt Viper is one of the rarer revolvers in Colt’s lineup, with its production run being extremely limited. Originally introduced in 1977 as a lightweight, 4-inch-barreled variant of the Colt Police Positive, the Viper was initially discontinued after just one year. However, Colt briefly reintroduced the model in 1993, making this particular revolver one of the elusive second-generation Vipers.
